We make all of our floors to be safe for the environment both inside your home and out.
Quick•Step® floors are not only designed for homes, they’re designed for the families who live there. So we make sure they’re safe for everyone. A recent report by 60 Minutes regarding flooring sourced from China by a national retailer brought up several questions about the safety of laminate and wood floors. We’d like to address these questions as they pertain to our Quick•Step® laminate and Q•Wood™ wood products.
1. Does Quick•Step® test the wood and laminate floors that they sell in the US?
All laminate and engineered wood flooring manufactured and sold by Quick•Step® and Q•Wood™ has been tested in accordance with the California Air Resources Board’s (CARB) Airborne Toxic Control Measure (ATCM) 93120 Title 17, California Code of Regulations, and meets the CARB Phase 2 standards.
2. What is the California Air Resources Board (CARB)?
The California Air Resources Board is a group that regulates everything having to with the air quality in the state of California. It is comprised of a group of experts in various fields relating to air quality and thought to be at the forefront of air quality on a national level.
3. What is the CARB standard for air quality?
The state of California devised a standard and began its implementation in 2008 to reduce the formaldehyde emissions from composite wood products and finished goods that contain composite wood products that are sold, offered for sale, supplied, used or manufactured for sale in California.
While formaldehyde is a naturally occurring substance in all wood, high levels considered harmful for humans can occur when resins and glues containing high levels of formaldehyde are used to manufacture laminate core board and plywood for engineered wood flooring.
For more information on CARB, visit www.arb.ca.gov
4. How were these products tested?
All of Quick-Step’s laminate core board and engineered wood plywood manufacturing facilities and suppliers were audited and samples randomly selected for testing by an independent Third Party Certifier approved by CARB. Based upon results achieved by independent Third Party Certifiers, all Quick•Step® laminate flooring and all engineered wood flooring is Phase 2 as defined by CARB’s ATCM 93120 and, therefore, compliant with the law. Quick•Step® regularly checks to ensure all certification is updated and that all CARB requirements are being met.
